IJEN CRATER ✨

     INFORMATION ABOUT THE IJEN CRATER
Mount Ijen is a volcano located on the border between Banyuwangi Regency and Bondowoso Regency, East Java, Indonesia. This mountain has an altitude of 2,386 meters above sea level and is located side by side with Mount Merapi. Mount Ijen last erupted in 1999. .One of the most famous natural phenomena of Mount Ijen is the blue fire in the crater which is located at its peak. This mountain climbing can be started from two places. Hikers can depart from Banyuwangi or from Bondowoso.

Ijen crater is an acidic crater lake at the top of Mount Ijen with a lake depth of 200 meters and a crater area of 5,466 hectares.

Ijen crater lake is known as the largest strong acid lake in the world.

.Ijen crater is in the area of Ijen Tourism Park, Bondowoso Regency and Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.

The phenomenon of eternal blue fire or eternal blue fire is in the Ijen crater, and this natural sight only occurs in two places in the world, namely Iceland and Ijen.

.blue fire can only be seen by the human eye when there is no light, so the ideal time to see it is 2 to 4 in the morning, because the climbing of Mount Ijen only starts to open at 2 in the morning.

.from Ijen Crater, we can see views of other mountains in the Ijen Mountains complex, including the summit of Mount Marapi which is east of Ijen Crater, Mount Raung, Mount Suket, and Mount Rante.

.One of the most interesting things about Mount Ijen is the Ijen crater, which is located at the top of this mountain

The secret of the blue color of the blue fire sulfur gas is in the burning of chemical compounds in Ijen Crater.

Ijen Crater has a very high sulfur content.
When there are compounds such as sulfur mixed with oxygen and high temperatures, there is a combustion reaction that occurs.

Heat is released and new chemical compounds are created, such as sulfur dioxide.

.the visible part of the combustion is the flame caused by the atoms emitting energy.

The energy that comes from the combustion reaction increases the electrons in the atom to become more active.

.when the electrons return to their original phase, they release extra energy as light particles.

Because there are sulfur compounds that burn, the resulting color is a sparkling blue color.

.volcanoes usually release many chemical compounds from the Earth to the surface.

In Ijen Crater, there are compounds other than sulfur that affect the color of the crater, such as chlorine and various other blacks.

Inside the crater, sulfur dioxide gas dissolves and forms sulfuric acid.

.then, the presence of chlorine in there means a hydrocholic acid compound.

Once Ijen Crater is acidic, the acidity level or pH of the crater is below 0.5.

This figure indicates that the crater is very acidic.

.The acidity level is so high that it can dissolve the metal so that it looks bright.

This is because the metal content in Ijen Crater absorbs certain light waves so that we see the reflected color.

.although it is beautiful, the compounds in Ijen Crater can be dangerous.

Therefore, the rules for visitors to Ijen Crater are very strict .
